Description: Is it a snake, or a stick? This teaching piece, for patient education, shows the neural pathways regarding
fear response. First, a mysterious object is seen and projected onto the retina of the eye.
A message is sent through the optic nerve to the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus then sends a message to both the cortex
and the amygdala where fear, then reason messages from the cortex are sent back to the hypothalamus. Slide illustration
for the Harvard Center for Risk Assessment.
