2008, AMI Outstanding Service Award
On July 18, 2008, at the 63rd Annual Conference of the Association of Medical Illustrators, Jennifer Fairman received the Outstanding Acheivement Award, "for
outstanding service to the Association, excellence as an artist and educator, and bringing honor to the profession."
The Outstanding Service Award is presented to a Professional or Associate Member who has served
the AMI in an official capacity and who deserves special recognition. No more than two such awards may be presented in one year.

2007,The Genetic Journey Honored in the NSF International Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge
Judges appointed by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the journal Science for the Science and Engineering Visualization
Challenge selected winners in each of five categories: photographs, illustrations,
informational graphics, interactive media and non-interactive media. In the Information Graphics Category
the spread entitled The Genetic Journey: Following DNA form Cell to Society was awarded a Semifinalist Honor. This competition recognizes outstanding achievements
by scientists, engineers, visualization specialists, and artists who are innovators in the use of visual media to promote understandingof research
results and scientific phenomena. |

2007, Association of Medical Illustrators Fellow Convocation
On July 19, 2007 at the 62nd Annual Conference of the Association of Medical Illustrators, held in Bozeman, MT, Jennifer Fairman was inducted into the Fellows of the Association
of Medical Illustrators. The designation of Fellow is a formal
and public recognition of those AMI members who have generously contributed considerable time and effort to the Association in volunteer participation and service.
The AMI Fellow Program was established to (1) foster the volunteerism concept for the good of the Association, and
(2) recognize those members who have generously given of their time and talents to AMI activities.

2006, Jennifer Fairman named 1 of 10 semi-finalists in the J.Jill, then voted Second Place.
Nature of Compassion Design Contest.
Over 2000 of J. Jill customers entered their artwork into the 2006 Nature of Compassion Design Contest.
It was up to the public to help J.Jill pick the winner. Voting was open to the public daily
between July 12 and July 31, 2006. Jennifer Fairman was named 1 of the 10 semi-finalists, and then voted to Second Place.
Later her design was also chosen to be part of a greeting card set featuring all 10 designs.

The Consumer Health Publishers Association and Online Health Association have awarded
UrologyHealth.org a Silver Award for Best Online Health Information.
The Spring 2004 World Wide Web Health Awards
recognizes the best health information Web sites for consumers and professionals. The winning entry was among more
than 300 entries judged by a panel of health information experts.
UrologyHealth.org is the AUA's on-line patient information resource, both built and illustrated by Fairman Studios.
UrologyHealth.org was written and reviewed by urology experts in partnership with the American Urological Association Foundation.
Visitors can search for urologic information from adult or pediatric conditions. Content is accompanied by medical illustrations when appropriate.

2001, NEWD Awards Finalist
The 2000-2001 version of the Fairman Studios Website was named as
one of the top five "Best Individual Promotional Portfolios" in the North East at the
2001 New England Web Design Awards. The NEWD Awards took place on
February 15th 2001 at Avalon in Boston.
A crowd of almost 1,000 creative and web professionals
appeared to meet 5 nominees each from 11 categories.
The show recognizes the best interactive design talent in New England.
Unlike other Web awards programs, the NEWD Awards recognizes
cutting-edge creativity of all designers, regardless of whether
they work in or outside of the corporate community.

At the 53rd Annual Meeting of the AMI in Atlanta, Georgia, Donald
Biggerstaff, President of the Vesalius Trust, presented a

1999, The Vesalius Trust Inez Demonet Award
The honor of the Inez Demonet Award is given annually to the graduate student who
exhibits the most outstanding merit and potential in the field of medical illustration. This prestigious award was designated
by bequest of Inez Demonet, a well known and respected medical illustrator and a long-time member of the AMI.

Awarded from the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine, for graduate studies at the
Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

1997, The Smithsonian Women's Committee Grant
The Flea Beetle Website was created with funds provided by the
Smithsonian Women's Committee Grant as an on-line version of the Handbook of Palearctic Flea Beetles. The Handbook
provides valuable information on flea beetle identification, morphology, distribution, and host plants.
This information contributes to present and future biological control endeavors, as well as urban pest
management and conservation efforts. The online handbook serves as an entertaining and educational resource
for young people with a burgeoning interest in entomology.

1996, The James Smithson Society Grant, Fellow
With funds provided by a
James Smithson Society Fellowship, The Diptera Unit,
(Fairman, F. Christian Thompson and Wayne N. Mathis) conducted a
pilot study on the dissemination and repatriation of specimen-based natural history information.
Costa Rica was selected as the target to aid their national effort towards the sustainable use and
conservation of wild biodiversity. A database was constructed using specimen-label-data of selected groups of flies
from Costa Rica were documented by images of typical specimens. This inventory can be seen on the current
Smithsonian/USDA Diptera Site.

1995, Senior Summer Scholar, University of Maryland
The Senior Summer Scholars Program is a competitive grant sponsored by the Office
of Undergraduate Studies. It provides an exciting opportunity for undergraduate students to enhance
their academic experience by spending the summer working closely with faculty mentors on scholarly
research or artistic projects. Each summer, the program provides scholarships of $2,500 to approximately 30 outstanding
seniors university-wide. Fairman completed research in systematic entomology for the Fruit Fly Expert System and Biosystematic Information Database
created at the United States Department of Agriculture's Systematic Entomology Laboratory located within the National Museum of Natural History.

1994, Phi Sigma Biological Honors Society
University of Maryland, Chapter Vice President
Phi Sigma recognizes the benefits derived by students, faculty, and others working in the biological sciences from
an organization acting as a stimulus to research and academic excellence in the biological sciences. At the discretion of a Chapter, sophomore students enrolled in a college or university
who show outstanding interest and ability in the biological sciences may be elected to the society. In addition, any person who
is a competent biologist and who is engaged in biological activity at or near an institution with an active Chapter of Phi Sigma
may be eligible for Active membership at the discretion of the Chapter. All persons elected to membership must rank
in the upper 35 percent of their class in general scholarship. The Greek letters Phi and Sigma,
signify FELLOWS IN SCIENCE.

1994, Golden Key National Honor Society
Golden Key
an academic honor society which recognizes and encourages scholastic
achievement and excellence among college and university students from all academic disciplines. Membership is
granted by the chapter to undergraduate students in all academic disciplines who,
are recognized by their academic institution as ranking at least among the top 15% of their
class based on cumulative grade performance, or a comparable alternate standard
approved by the International Leadership Council. The Society
awards its members nearly $500,000 annually through 17 different scholarship and award programs.
Members are connected to exclusive career opportunities and assistance through Golden Key's
partnerships with major corporations and graduate programs. The Society provides campus and
community service opportunities enabling personal growth and leadership development as well as collaborating with
university faculty and administrators to develop and maintain high standards of education.
