AMI Board of Certification
The Board of Certification of Medical Illustrators administers a certification program for illustrators
who seek a recognizable means of credentialing. The designation of Certified Medical Illustrator (CMI) denotes this voluntarily
earned credential and provides a recognizable means of signifying a practitioners current competency in the profession of medical
illustration. Certified Medical Illustrators have passed examinations dealing with business practices,
ethics, biomedical science, drawing skills, and have undergone a rigorous portfolio review.
Once earned, the CMI credential is maintained through meeting continuing education requirements designed to maintain competencies
required for practice. The competent practitioner performs work accurately and in the best interest of the consumer, makes correct
judgments, and interacts with other professionals and customers effectively. Competence must be demonstrated and maintained throughout
the individual's practicing life.
The certification program and examination process is based on standards established by the
National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) along with it's parent body, the National Organization
for Competency Assurance (NOCA), both recognized leaders in setting quality standards for credentialing organizations to
ensure the health, welfare, and safety of the public.

The Illustrators Partnership
To reach their economic goals, artists must be equipped to effectively compete in a rapidly changing
business and technological environment. First, artists must retain control of the intellectual property rights in their works. Second,
artists must establish a surperior licensing presence in available secondary markets for their works, and create new secondary markets.
Third, artists must learn more about how to use new business and technological models to control and exploit their intellectual property
rights and content in the networked environment. Organized by and for professional illustrators, the Illustrators' Partnership is responding
to these issues and many more.

The American Society of Illustrators Partnership
ASIP is a non-profit organization founded by 6 illustrators groups. As part of its mission, ASIP hopes to bring
accountability to the reprographic rights of American popular artists.
Reprography is the reproduction of something already printed. It traditionally referred to photocopying, but also now includes digital
reproductions of published works.
Reprographic rights are the photocopy and digital reproduction rights of your published work. Reprographic rights are separate from the first print or
electronic reproduction rights.
Reprographic rights are held individually by artists, but managed collectively by a collecting society.
A collecting society can only administer the rights of its members, i.e., those artists who have given the society a mandate to act on their behalf.
