Description: Bedside Maneuver for the Treatment of a Patient with Benign Peroxysmal Positional Vertigo Affecting the Right Ear - Instructional illustration for the article, "Balance Center: Defying Dizziness." (A) The patient is seated. For treatment affecting the right ear, the patient's head is turned to the right. (B) With the head facing right, the patient then moves from a seated to a reclining position. (C) The head is extended over the end of the table and turned sideways to the right. The chin points slightly upward. (D) Once the dizziness is provoked, the patient's head is then rotated so that the left ear points down with the chin pointing slightly upward. (E) The head and body are further rotated until the head faces downward. (F) After this position is maintained for 10 to 15 seconds, the patient is brought to a seated position with the head pointed downward.
