Description: Bedside Maneuver for the Treatment of a
Patient with Benign Peroxysmal Positional Vertigo Affecting the Right Ear -
Instructional illustration for the article, "Balance Center: Defying Dizziness."
(A) The patient is seated. For treatment affecting the right ear,
the patient's head is turned to the right. (B) With the head facing
right, the patient then moves from a seated to a reclining position. (C)
The head is extended over the end of the table and turned sideways to
the right. The chin points slightly upward. (D) Once the dizziness is
provoked, the patient's head is then rotated so that the left ear
points down with the chin pointing slightly upward. (E) The head
and body are further rotated until the head faces downward. (F)
After this position is maintained for
10 to 15 seconds, the patient is brought to a seated position with
the head pointed downward. |
